Grading Guidelines:

In all my courses, I make all efforts to ensure that I evaluate each student's work fairly and without bias and assign grades based on valid academic criteria and based on the student’s individual performances. . Fairness to students also implies reasonably consistent grading among courses of the same level, other things being equal. For this course, the grades distribution—based on the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences historical data—will be roughly as follows:

Your tests and quizzes’ grades will be recorded in the form of a percentile (%), a formula will be put in place to calculate the averages and the ratios for each category, then compute your accumulative grade also in %.  In order to figure out what your letter grade is at any given time, you may rely on the following table to make estimation.  Remember that grades as shown on webCT will be partial grades, but you should be able to estimate how well you are doing based on the percentage of tests and quizzes already taken and recorded. The total at any point can be estimated by considering the highest % shown on the class’ statistics page.

Let’s say we are half way through the term, and 50% of the tests, quizzes, assignments, etc. were taken and recorded (or 50% is what you see as the highest GPA).  You look at your grade total at that point and you find that you have accumulated 40% out of the possible 50%. That would translate into 80% if that were to be your final grade; and that is a B-.

Should you have any further questions, feel free to talk to me during my office hours.
